La Chimba

I spent a week in La Chimba, in the Northern Sierra (foothills of the Andes) in Ecuador...lovely.

Hiking at Harriman

MB and I ventured out into the rain, which let up very obligingly. We reached a good lookout point on the trail, saw some nice clouds and a cool view of the valley, and then got back down the hill to the car in time for the rain to start.

Etiquette...

So last night, MB and I were the performers and audience for an event called "Etiquette" in the East Village.

We sat at a little table in a Ukrainian diner called Veselka, which is really great, and wore headphones and listened to an audio track that told us what to do and what to say. It's kind of hard to explain, but was hilarious and cool and I'm kind of sorry that last night was closing night--I can't tell anyone else to go and try it.

Dave and Kate, our neighbors, showed up to observe, although this particular play is really just written for the two people who perform it.

If you click on the title of the blog it's a link to the Public Theatre page for the event.

Vote on Tuesday!

CTT, New Year's Eve

My new favorite online time-waster, animoto.com, provided this lovely slideshow for me.

Blogging for Barack

I perhaps unwisely stayed up late last night watching the live feeds from the Iowa caucuses...but really was fascinated by the process, and (almost) wish I lived in Iowa. ..or at least I wish NJ had a similar process--opportunity for real, personal, political dialogue between members of a community rather than a closed-curtain primary.

I recently read this Atlantic Monthly article (thanks, Bart!) that explains well my reasons for supporting Barack Obama for president...much better than I could ever explain them, which is why I'm not a columnist for the Atlantic Monthly. If there are any readers left on my blog (I'm pretty bad at updating, I know) please read this article. In it, there also are excerpts of some of Sen. Obama's speeches in which he articulates his faith journey, as well as a commentary on how his personal history has shaped who he is--and who he could be as a healing leader for our country.

And if you live in NJ, remember, you only have a few more days to register to vote if you want to be eligible for the primary!

Friday, November 23.

Created with Admarket's flickrSLiDR.

This was my Friday, November 23. It was a lovely day. Pancake-making, puzzle-doing, reading, hiking-while-decked-out-in-hunter-orange, (safety first!) spending-time-with-nephews, pingpong-ing, photographing, sunset-watching, roasting things over the fire, napping.

It's become a semi-tradition to spend the few days after Thanksgiving at Camp Tall Turf, with various relatives and friends. Since I was flying out Saturday morning from GR, I only could stay until Friday evening. But it was worth it. The weather was beautiful, although a little chilly.
