Nate Waits

Nathan, my cousin (who happens to be a big Bush supporter) accompanied my dad and me to the Fieldhouse for graduation. Here's Nate waiting in the security line.

The fieldhouse was buzzing with Grand Rapids Police, Secret Service, and of course, Calvin's administrative staff in bright yellow/gold shirts. Not to mention the press, who managed the best seats in the house, crawling in front of the professors during the President's speech.

Martha's Graduation

I was the fortunate holder of a ticket to Calvin's graduation this year, since Martha was graduating, so that's how I spent Saturday afternoon, May 21st. We could see President Bush (in the blue robe, second from the end), but barely. It wasn't a life-changing experience, but he did manage to make a few Kuyperian references. I've always said that Bush's speech-writers were talented. I was not a supporter of the "Bring Bush to Calvin" crusade, but it was better than I thought. It sparked lots of discussion...also, a huge number of graduates and family members wore stickers saying "God is not a Republican or a Democrat".

Another picture, this time with the dashing Mike. I'm sure everyone agrees with Christian and me that the blue shirt was the right choice. (It was either that or striped tan!)

Wendy and Becca get dressed up!

Last Saturday, after a stressful hair-arranging episode, I was shuttled to Wendy and Mike Eaton's house to be beautified...that is, made up and dressed up. Thankfully I had this lovely silver number stored away, and also luckily Christian Mansfield was on hand to apply the makeup to my face.

The reason? Grace Van Vorst (my church) held a Champagne Gala to open the Cathedral Arts Festival, held every year. It was a wonderful evening...sparkly, very sparkly, full of good music, good champagne, and great hors d'oeuvres.

Another X-ray

Here's a full-leg x-ray. X-rays aren't very photogenic on this camera...so the knee is a little blurry.

So I went to the orthopedic surgeon's office yesterday for my second-to-last doctor's appointment...and Dr. Augustin let me take pictures of my x-rays. Unfortunately, Dr. A didn't want to be in the picture WITH the x-rays.

Here you can see my foot and lower leg, complete with screws, rod, and slowly healing break.
