The Walcotts came for a short tour of Mustard Seed, and Kassi and Michael had to climb up into the loft in my classroom. My dad built it for me last summer!

For the Walcotts' last day around these parts, we met in Hoboken, where we enjoyed Seven-Star Pizza...huge slices, as you can see. Michael and Kassi were extremely impressed. (Eric was too, but he tried to hide it. I saw it though.)

Becca, Kassi, and Michael by "The Bull" in Lower Manhattan

A day after Lisa et.al. left, the Walcotts came for a few days. They had a lovely hotel in midtown, and I joined them in the city at around noon each day. This was a VERY hot and muggy day....we were on our way to the Statue of Liberty when all the moisture in the air became raindrops.

Lisa Ponstine, my roommate from the semester in New Mexico, came to visit with two friends from Chicago.

They entertained themselves much of the time, thankfully, since I had progress reports and classroom-cleaning to do...but we still managed to have dinner together one night and lunch in Hoboken the last day of their trip.

Egret

Egret

The kids (and I) were excited to see an egret in the reservoir. It's a little surreal to think that just over the embankment is a busy street and row of houses. The reservoir is an amazing place.

More observing... although more students seem to be observing the camera than the local flora and fauna.

Making Observations

So, many people have been wondering what's been going on for me since the end of May...and what better time to write on this blog than now, during summer vacation. But let's jump back a bit to June 6, when my students and I went to observe birds at Reservoir #3 in Jersey City.
